The facts vs. the media

by Frank in Stockholm       Friday, August 30, 2002

Its pretty obvious by now that some sort of pact exists in the mainstream media to block out the truth. How else can you explain the total incompetence of this so called media?

There's no official criticism whatsoever of the War on Terror. Bush and his pals can get away with just about anything. They can lie about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction. They can lie about their involvement in corporate scandals. They can lie about their obvious knowledge of events prior to September 11th. (Although I'm not sure yet what it is, it's very obvious that they knew something.) They can lie about the anthrax investigations. They can lie about Israeli involvement in not sharing the facts about September 11th. They can lie, lie, lie. And nothing happens.

It's sad to realize that in the so-called high-tech era we live in, we the people, are being worked again, much more than before. It seems not so long ago when the media was on our side. When Nixon resigned, EVERYBODY seemed to be against "them". That's why he resigned.

Everybody, with somewhat of a romanticized version, wanted corruption to fail.

Now that's not the case anymore. Think about it. The Bush administration is at least 10 times as crooked as Nixon's administration, yet with even more channels of information they're still in power. That saddens me. It truly does. It shouldn't be this way.

As much as I love websites like this one, deep inside it hurts me that this is where I have to go to find out what is going on.

When I pick up a newspaper (and pay for it), I want to be able to trust the journalists. After all, I am paying for their salaries aren't I?

Thank God (if that's what you believe in) I DO have sites like this, and many others. I just wish it wouldn't have to be like this. The only solace I can find taking part in YOUR cause, is the fact that people ARE saying enough. You ARE upset whit this fucked up system you live in.

It's just so hard to act, when you think you are all alone. But you aren't alone! No no no no!

Just think for a second. Who owns your newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, your internet provider? It's pretty safe to say that its either News Corp, AOL/Time-Warner, Disney, The Clear Channel, or whatever. They own pretty much everything. And since they are now working together in many aspects, I'm sure there is some sort of "understanding" that they must promote "Patriotism" and "don't question us" together.

I work in the media in Sweden, and I know there are collaborations. This is one a much smaller playing field. Just think what the big conglomerates do.

I am wondering where the mainstream media will go after the bubble bursts? How will they justify their betrayal of the people — the people they are supposed to represent? No lies in the world can justify why they do this. What they do I'm pretty sure you know by now. Every one of you visiting this site do it for a reason. You are simply fed up.

So am I.

But what can I do? I'm a Swedish citizen who participates in only a few demonstrations here and there. I've been to the NY march and the Portland one (where I just managed not to get pepper-sprayed by the neo-Nazi shocktroopers they call law enforcement officers). A video of a portion of this protest is available at: http://www.sf.indymedia.org/ uploads/ bushpdx.ram.

These pictures speak for themselves. The protestors did absolutely nothing to provoke the shocktroopers.

How disturbing these pictures might be, if the media showed them. Its' a very good reminder that the power of a well-working democracy is always with the people. ALWAYS! Never forget that.

Also, never forget that it's 100 times more patriotic to question your leaders than look away. Because if you look away you, are just as guilty as they are.

Thanks for reading, —Frank.
